"Dreamgirls"

This December Beyoncé Knowles will play the part of Deena Jones in the up coming movie "Dreamgirls" which is based on the very successful Broadway show of the 1980's. The story will give you an inside on what goes on behind the scenes of a popular girl group who made it to superstardom. It deals with the fact of how one singer gets singled out to become a huge star! Beyoncé who started off with Destiny's Child and later went solo should be able to come up with the right emotions to play this part. However since this story is taking place in the early 1960's and will end somewhere in the mid 1970's it is obvious that she's not portraying her own life! The 1960's had a lot of great girl groups... just think about; The Chantelles, The Crystals, The Velvelettes, The Vandellas, The Marvelettes and of course The Supremes. Although it always has been denied by the producers it is so obvious that the story is based on the life and career of Diana Ross who once was the lead singer of The Supremes. In the 1980's Diana Ross had forbidden her daughters to go watch the play and it is said that Diana herself walked out of the theatre in the middle of it... Mary Wilson one of Diana's backing vocalists in The Supremes picked up the title of it for her biography "Dreamgirls; My life as a Supreme". Anyway, even today the producers of the movie say that it could have been any girl group of the 1960's and 1970's. They also say that it has nothing to do with The Supremes and/or Diana Ross....... Me as a Diana Ross fan can't wait till the movie is released here in Belgium cause from what I've seen so far there are sooooooooooooo many similarities between The Supremes and The Dreams in the movie. You don't have to take my word for it but here are just a few.....

The Supremes' first album ever was called: "Meet The Supremes"
