Los Angeles, CA

.
After my week in Maui I went to Los Angles, CA. this is my favorite city in the world! I do have a lot of friends there and I was invited to go see "Divas simply singing" which is a bennefit concert for woman living with Aids.
Sheryl Lee Ralph has done it again! Her 17th installment of DIVAS Simply Singing! will benefit the Black AIDS Institute and the AIDS Heathcare Foundation and promises to cast its spell of magic once again.

DIVAS Simply Singing is a unique, magical evening of song and entertainment now in it 17th consecutive year! This oft-praised and highly anticipated event features a host of the most talented women in show business uniting in a benefit concert to continue the courageous battle against HIV/AIDS.
Created and produced by actress/producer Sheryl Lee Ralph, the program serves as a “tribute to the countless number of friends and family taken by this disease” and also calls to mind those who are currently fighting its effects. It was 1990, soon after the death of one of her close friends, when Miss Ralph began conceptualizing DIVAS:
“When I realized just how many friends I had lost to this disease, I knew that I couldn’t sit by and watch them die; I had to do something,” she later recalled.

It was great witnessing the original Dreamgirls get together again for the first time since they closed the show on Broadway.

After the show who included Denise Williams, Natalie Cole, RuPaul, Norwood Young and of course Sheryl Lee Ralph I was invited as a geust at the after party. At this party I was introduced to Miss Sheryl Lee Ralph who had played the role of Deena Jones in the Broadway play "Dreamgirls". Garth, the guy who invited me and who took me to the after party introduced me and said that I was a huge Diana Ross fan. Sheryl looked at me and said.... are you sure you want to meet me? It seems that most Diana Ross fans don't like her at all because of this play!

That same night most of us went to Noorwood Young's house for a second after party. At this party I met movie-producer Dwayne Alexander. We talked about his upcoming movie (I can't say much about it but if you love Disco I'm sure you'll love it!) and had a great time. A couple of days later Dwayne and I had lunch to talk some business...
Here's an interview with Norwood at his house:

Back on track

It's been a while since I last posted something here so here we go with what have happened ever since.

I had a great vacation on Maui where I spend some time with some good friends from figure skating. From day one they were trying to get me in the water which I refused because of my shark encounter a couple of years ago. After a while I finally gave in and guess what.............

Yes, there was a shark and no it wasn't me! lol No need to tell you that now I am convinced that I never will swim in an ocean or sea again!

USA

.
I just got home from Vienna a couple of days ago and I have to leave again for the "USA". This time it's not for skating but for vacation! I will spend a couple of days in Maui (Hawaii) first and then go on to Los Angeles (California). In both places I will meet some very good friends! I'm also very positive that in both places the sun will shine! Not like here in Belgium where we had one of the worst summers ever!!! Rain, rain, rain, ..... No need to tell you that I'm looking forward to my days in the sun and the sunsets on the beach! Palm trees, white sandy beaches, blue water, cocktails.......
.

Back from Vienna

.
I'm back from Vienna where I was the Team Leader for the "Belgian Figure Skating Team" which included Barbara Klerk and myself! lol OK, it wasn't a big team but the results were more than OK. Barbara came in 16/33 after a very good result in the Short program where she placed 12th. Since she had to skate the free program on friday she was done for the weekend which gave us the chance to visit Vienna a bit. We did go into town to buy a new shirt for me (poor me...I didn't had any shirt for the banquet...lol). On sunday we spend the morning visiting the world famous "Prater Park". We took a ride on several rollercoasters there. One of them was the "Volare" rollercoaster which was fun and new to me. Anyway, we had great fun both on and off the ice.

Vienna

.
Tomorrow I'm leaving for Vienna but this time I'm going as a Team Leader for Belgium. I'm looking forward to the event with our skater Barbara Klerk. It's also the first time that I'm a Team Leader and wonder how it will be like standing on the other side of the arena... This will be my second time in Vienna (I was there a couple of years ago for a seminar) which is a beautiful city with a lot of old buildings, nice shops, good restaurants and of course the world famous Prater Park. Who doesn't know their landmark.... the Ferris Wheel.

Luciano Pavarotti

.
Luciano Pavarotti (October 12, 1935 – September 6, 2007) was an Italian tenor and one of the most popular contemporary vocal performers in the world of opera and across multiple musical genres. Known for his televised concerts, and as one of the Three Tenors, Pavarotti was also noted for his award-winning charity work for raising money on behalf of refugees and the Red Cross.

Career

1960s–1970s

Pavarotti made his opera début in the role of Rodolfo in La bohème on April 29, 1961 in the town of Reggio Emilia. 1963 saw the debut of the famous Franco Zeffirelli production, conducted by Herbert Von Karajan with Mirella Freni singing Mimi and Pavarotti in the role of Rodolfo. This production played in Milan, Vienna, Salzburg and Moscow and dominated the repertoire for decades. He made his American début with the Greater Miami Opera in February, 1965 singing in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor opposite Joan Sutherland on the stage of the Miami-Dade County Auditorium in Miami. The tenor scheduled to perform that night was ill and had no understudy. As Sutherland was traveling with him on tour, she recommended the young Pavarotti as he was well acquainted with the role.
Shortly after, on April 28, Pavarotti made his La Scala debut in La bohème. After an extended Australian tour he returned to La Scala where he added Tebaldo from I Capuleti e i Montecchi to his repertoire on March 26, 1966, with Giacomo Aragall as Romeo. His first appearance as Tonio in Pagliacci took place at Covent Garden on June 2 of that year.
He scored another major triumph in Rome on November 20, 1969 when he sang I Lombardi opposite Renata Scotto. This was recorded on a private label and widely distributed, as were various takes of his I Capuleti e i Montecchi, usually with Aragall. Early commercial recordings included a recital of Donizetti and Verdi arias (the aria from Don Sebastiano was particularly highly regarded), as well as a complete L'elisir d'amore with Sutherland. His major breakthrough in the United States came on February 17, 1972, in a production of Donizetti's La fille du régiment at New York's Metropolitan Opera, in which he drove the crowd into a frenzy with his nine effortless high Cs in the signature aria. He achieved a record 17 curtain calls. From then on he began to make frequent television performances, such as in his role as Rodolfo (La bohème) in the first Live From The Met telecast in March of 1977, which attracted one of the largest audiences ever for a televised opera. He won many Grammy awards and platinum and gold discs for his performances. In addition to the previously listed titles, his La favorita with Fiorenza Cossotto and his I puritani with Sutherland stand out.
He made his international recital début at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri in 1973 as part of the college’s Fine Arts Program, now known as the Harriman-Jewell Series. Perspiring before the debut, he asked for a handkerchief to hold while on stage. The prop was a signature part of his act ever since.

1980s–1990s

Luciano Pavarotti in the role of Rodolfo from La Boheme (1988)
At the beginning of the 1980s, he set up The Pavarotti International Voice Competition for young singers, performing with the winners in 1982 in excerpts of La bohème and L'elisir d'amore. The second competition in 1986 staged excerpts of La bohème and Un ballo in maschera. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of his career he brought the winners of the competition to Italy for gala performances of La bohème in Modena and Genoa and then to China where they staged performances of La bohème in Beijing. To conclude the visit, Pavarotti performed the first ever concert in the Great Hall of the People before 10,000 people, receiving a standing ovation for nine effortless high Cs. The third competition in 1989 again staged performances of L'elisir d'amore and Un ballo in maschera. The winners of the fifth competition accompanied Pavarotti in performances in Philadelphia in 1997.
Pavarotti's pivotal step in becoming an internationally known celebrity occurred in 1990 when his rendition of Giacomo Puccini's aria, "Nessun Dorma" from Turandot, became the theme song of the BBC TV coverage of the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. The aria achieved pop status and has, to date, remained his trademark song. This was followed by the hugely successful Three Tenors concert held on the eve of the World Cup final at the ancient Baths of Caracalla in Rome with fellow tenors Plácido Domingo and José Carreras and conductor Zubin Mehta, which became the biggest selling classical record of all time. Throughout the 1990s, Pavarotti appeared in many well-attended outdoor concerts, including his televised concert in London's Hyde Park which drew a record attendance of 150,000. In June 1993, more than 500,000 listeners gathered for his performance on the Great Lawn of New York's Central Park, while millions more around the world watched on television. The following September, in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, he sang for an estimated crowd of 300,000. Following on from the original 1990 concert, Three Tenors concerts were held during the Football World Cups; in Los Angeles in 1994, in Paris in 1998, and in Yokohama in 2002.
Pavarotti's rise to stardom was not without occasional difficulties, however. He earned a reputation as "The King of Cancellations" by frequently backing out of performances, and his unreliable nature led to poor relationships with some opera houses. This was brought into focus in 1989 when Ardis Krainik of the Lyric Opera of Chicago severed the house's 15-year relationship with the tenor. Over an eight-year period, Pavarotti had cancelled 26 out of 41 scheduled appearances at the Lyric and the decisive move by Krainik to ban him for life was well-noted throughout the opera world, after the performer walked away from a season premiere less than two weeks before rehearsals began, saying pain from a sciatic nerve required two months of treatment.
On December 12, 1998 he became the first (and, so far, only) opera singer to perform on Saturday Night Live, singing alongside Vanessa L. Williams. He also sang with U2, in the band's 1995 song Miss Sarajevo.
In 1998, Pavarotti was presented with the Grammy Legend Award. Given only on special occasions, it has only been awarded 15 times since its first presentation in 1990 (as of 2007).

2000s

In 2002 Pavarotti split with his manager of 36 years Herbert Breslin. The breakup, which was acrimonious, was followed in 2004 with the publication of a book by Breslin entitled The King & I, seen by many as sensationalist and largely critical of the singer's acting (in opera), his ability to read music and learn parts, and of his personal conduct, although acknowledging their mutual success. In an interview in 2005 with Jeremy Paxman on the BBC, Pavarotti rejected the allegation that he could not read music, although acknowledging he sometimes had difficulty following orchestral parts.
He received Kennedy Center Honors in 2001 and holds two Guinness World Records: for receiving the most curtain calls — at 165 — and for the best selling classical album (this album is In Concert by The Three Tenors and is thus shared by fellow tenors, Plácido Domingo and José Carreras).
In 2003 he released his final compilation, Ti Adoro, which has Pavarotti singing in more of a "popera" style.
On 13 December 2003 he married his former personal assistant, Nicoletta Mantovani, with whom he already had a daughter, Alice. He started his farewell tour in 2004, at the age of 69, performing one last time in old and new locations, after over four decades on the stage.
Pavarotti gave his last performance in an opera at the New York Metropolitan Opera on March 13, 2004 for which he received a 12-minute standing ovation for his role as the painter Mario Cavaradossi in Giacomo Puccini's Tosca. On December 1, 2004, he announced a 40-city farewell tour to be produced by Harvey Goldsmith.
In March 2005, Pavarotti underwent neck surgery to repair two vertebrae. In June of the same year, he had to cancel a Three Tenors concert in Mexico due to laryngitis.
In early 2006, he had back surgery and contracted an infection while in the hospital, forcing cancellation of concerts in the U.S., Canada and the UK.

On February 10, 2006, Pavarotti sang "Nessun Dorma" at the 2006 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony in Torino, Italy. The final act of the opening ceremony, his performance received the longest and loudest ovation of the night from the international crowd. I was at the Opening Ceremony since I had to judge the Olympic Games and altough I don't like Opera etc... his performance brought me to tears! It was a very intence moment!

Here's Mr. Pavarotti's Torino Performance! (again it brought me to tears)

Aaron Neville

.
I love Soul music and R&B from the 60's and 70's you all know that especially if it's released on Motown records. However I also like other artists from that decade and Aaron Neville is one of those others that I like! Aaron Neville has had a career as a solo artist and as one of the Neville Brothers. Of mixed African American and Native American heritage, his music also features Cajun influence. Aaron is noted for his unusual vibrato singing style, which he says was inspired by Gene Autry's yodeling. With his solo career, Neville is best known for his Grammy-winning 1989 duets with Linda Ronstadt, "Don't Know Much" and "All My Life," as well as his first - and to date his biggest - hit, 1966's "Tell It Like It Is," which was covered by Heart in 1980. Neville was recording for the tiny Louisiana record label Par Lo when "Tell It Like It Is" hit #2 nationally. The strain of trying to distribute the hit bankrupted the label. His other hits have included "Everybody Plays The Fool," his successful 1991 cover of the 1972 Main Ingredient soul classic; "Don't Take Away My Heaven", "Hercules" and "Can't Stop My Heart From Loving You (The Rain Song)." Neville's biggest solo successes have been on the Adult Contemporary chart, where "Don't Know Much," "All My Life," and "Everybody Plays The Fool" all reached Number One. In August 2005 his home in Eastern New Orleans was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina; he evacuated to Memphis, Tennessee before the hurricane hit. He has yet to return to the city, causing the New Orleans Jazz Fest to change its tradition of having the Neville Brothers close the festival. Neville performed Randy Newman's "Louisiana 1927" during NBC's A Concert for Hurricane Relief on September 2, 2005. Aaron signed to SonyBMG's new Burgundy Records label in late 2005 and recorded an album of great classic soul songs by Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Cooke and others for Bring It on Home…The Soul Classics, released on September 19th, 2006. The album, produced by Stewart Levine, features collaborations between Aaron and Chaka Khan, Mavis Staples, Chris Botti, David Sanborn, Art Neville, and others. The album's first single was a remake of The Impressions' 1963 classic "It's All Right." Neville's career has included work for television, movies and sporting events. Neville sang the U.S. National Anthem in the movie The Fan starring Robert DeNiro and Wesley Snipes. He also sang the anthem at the WWF's SummerSlam 1993 and at WCW Spring Stampede in 1994. Neville sang the theme music to the children's TV series Fisher-Price Little People. He also sang a new version of "Cotton," for Cotton, Inc. which was introduced during the 1992 Summer Olympics, . In 1988 he recorded Mickey Mouse March for Stay Awake: Various Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films, one of Various Artists. In 2006, Neville sang "The Star-Spangled Banner", alongside singer Aretha Franklin and Dr John on keyboard at Super Bowl XL in Detroit. Aaron made a guest appearance on an episode of the soap opera The Young and the Restless on October 27, 2006. He sang the classic hits "Stand By Me" and "Ain't No Sunshine", from his new album, Bring It on Home…The Soul Classics. Neville's son Ivan Neville is also a musician and released an album, If My Ancestors Could See Me Now, in 1988, which yielded a Top 40 hit with "Not Just Another Girl." Ivan has also performed with the Rolling Stones and Bonnie Raitt, and played bass for Keith Richard on his first solo tour.
Here's Aaron with one of my favorite songs ever!: "Tell it like it is!"

Tyra Banks

.
Ask any person to name one black model and they all will say..... Naomi Campbell!
I would say Tyra Banks. To me she's the most beautiful one of them all. Tyra Lynne Banks (born December 4, 1973) is an Emmy Award-nominated American supermodel, television personality and a talk show hostess. She first emerged to prominence on the runways of Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo, and the U.S., but her work in the commercial world was her breakthrough. She is best known as hostess/judge of the reality television show America's Next Top Model, since its 2003 debut on UPN (later CW), and is currently hosting her own daytime Emmy Award-nominated talk show, The Tyra Banks Show. Banks is one of only four African Americans and seven women to have repeatedly ranked among the world's most influential people by Time magazine.

Modeling career
Within Banks's first week in Paris, other designers were so entranced by her presence on the runway that she was booked for an unprecedented 25 shows--a record in the business for a newcomer. She has done extensive print and runway work for fashion/advertising giants such as Cover Girl, Swatch, Pepsi, Nike, Inc., Victoria's Secret, XOXO, LensCrafters, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint-Laurent, Chanel, Escada, Anna Sui, Michael Kors, Liz Claiborne, Isaac Mizrahi, Got Milk?, and Richard Tyler. She was only the third African American to sign with a major cosmetics company. She has appeared on the covers of such magazines as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, and ELLE. Banks was the first African American woman on the covers of GQ and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In 1997, she received the Michael Award for Supermodel of the Year. Also in '97, she was chosen for the cover of the Victoria's Secret catalog, making her the first African American to be so honored. Banks retired from modeling in May 2005 to concentrate on her television show. She walked the runway for the final time at the 2005 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. On numerous occasions, she has been sought after to appear in Playboy magazine; however, she has turned each request down.

Television & film
Banks' television career began on the fourth season of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, in which she played lead character Will's ex-girlfriend Jackie Ames, and made eight appearances throughout the series. Other screen credits include Felicity, MADtv, Nick Cannon's Wild 'N Out (in which she was featured as special guest host and team captain), and The Price Is Right (guest-starring as a Barker's Beauty). Currently, Banks can be seen on television as the hostess, head judge, and executive producer of the UPN (now the CW) television show America's Next Top Model. In addition, she does double duty as the host of The Tyra Banks Show, a daytime talk show which premiered on September 12, 2005 and recently began its second season, drawing over 1.9 million viewers an episode. The show features stories about everyday people mixed in with celebrity interviews, much like the early format of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Under the slogan "Every woman has a story...and it happened to Tyra too", Banks promotes her show using emotional flashbacks to her own childhood and adolescence. Many of the episodes deal with issues facing women today.
On the big screen, Banks has had minor roles in a few movies. Her first big screen role came in 1995 when she co-starred in the critically acclaimed drama Higher Learning. She went on to co-star with Lindsay Lohan in the Disney film Life-Size, playing a doll named Eve who comes to life. Other notable roles include 1999's Love Stinks, 2000's Coyote Ugly, and 2002's Halloween: Resurrection – the eighth film in the Halloween franchise.

Music
Banks appeared in several music videos including Michael Jackson's "Black or White",Tina Turner's "Love Thing", and George Michael's "Too Funky" (with fellow supermodel Linda Evangelista). In 2004, she recorded her first single, "Shake Ya Body", which had a music video featuring the America's Next Top Model, Cycle 2 contestants.(Music Video) The video had its world premiere on UPN, but the single was a failure for Banks. She stated on Cycle 2 of Top Models that "Singing has been a passion of mine for a long, long time...6 years on the down low - been ducking in and out of studios cutting tracks," but on her talk show she stated, "I can't believe I wasted 6 years of doing something that I didn't finish...I was almost able to release my album 'T.Y.R.A' but since my music career hit rock bottom I quit." On her show, she commented to Carmen Electra, "Girl, that makes the two of us with music videos that people didn't like."

Weight Issues
Top models are also human... In the winter of 2006 media scrutinized Banks about her weight reportedly gaining 30lbs since being on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.Insulting terms were used like "America's Next Top Woddle" and "Tyra Porkchop". Tyra lashed out saying "Kiss my fat a--". Banks also appeared on People magazine sparking her widespread "SO WHAT" campaign. Though recently Banks has reportedly lost 30+lbs.

HOLLYWOOD CLASSIC # 9 "An American Werewolf in London"

.
From time to time I love to see horror movies etc... It's always scary even though I know that it's fake. One of the better movies in its genre is "An American Werewolf in London".
"An American Werewolf in London" is a comedy/horror film released in 1981, written and directed by John Landis. It stars David Naughton, Griffin Dunne and Jenny Agutter. This movie won the 1981 "Saturn Award" for Best Horror Film. Although there are several straightforward horror elements to the plot, it is also knowingly funny and ironic, an example of a tongue-in-cheek humor. The film was one of three high-profile werewolf films released in 1981, alongside "The Howling" and "Wolfen", in fact "The Howling" was the first movie where they showed the transformation from man into werewolf. Over the years, the film has accumulated a cult following and has been referred to as a cult classic by some fans.
The film was followed by a 1997 semi-sequel, "An American Werewolf in Paris", which featured a completely different cast.
Intersting facts to know:
The credits congratulate Prince Charles and Diana Spencer for their wedding and contain the disclaimer "Any resemblance to any persons living, dead, or undead is coincidental"; a similar slogan appears during the ending credits of Michael Jackson's "Thriller", another horror-based movie directed by Landis.
At the end of the credits is a promo card for "Universal Studios" urging viewers to "Ask for Babs". This is a reference to Landis' 1978 film "National Lampoon's Animal House" where the credits list the future occupations of the students, including Babs, who became a tour guide at "Universal Studios". This same card appears in Landis' other films. Until the release of "Animal House" on VHS, asking for Babs at "Universal Studios" actually got people in for free.
The film was produced by "Lycanthrope Productions", a lycanthrope being a person with the power to turn themself into a wolf.
The film's ironically upbeat songs all refer in some way to the moon: Van Morrison's "Moondance", Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising" and particularly "Blue Moon", which plays during the opening credits (Bobby Vinton's slow and soothing version), the film's signature agonizing wolf transformation (as a soft, bittersweet ballad by Sam Cooke) and over the end credits (The Marcels' doo-wop version, lying uneasily over the film's ending). Landis failed to get permission to use Cat Stevens's "Moonshadow" and Bob Dylan's "Moonshiner", both artists feeling the film to be inappropriate. It was stated on the DVD commentary by David Naughton and Griffin Dunne that they were not sure why Landis could not get the rights to Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" — a song that was most appropriate for the film (perhaps Landis dismissed the song on the grounds that it didn't have the word "moon" in the title).
Landis' signature in-joke can be seen when the werewolf runs riot in Piccadilly Circus, where the porn cinema is playing "See You Next Wednesday", (a line also used in Michael Jackson's Thriller video done by Landis) and a poster for the fictitious film can also be seen in the tube station where Gerald Bringsley is attacked by the werewolf. Anyway, I'm still amazed every time I see the transformation from man into werewolf, don't you?

Bad luck comes in three...

.
Just recently I was in "De Efteling" to do some TV work to promote their newest ride "De Vliegende Hollander" or they're facing some serious problems with some of the rides. 1. At the beginning of the season they had a fire in "Droomvlucht" and the people on the ride couldn't get out of the cars. They were stuck inside! Nobody got injured! Then the day after we filmed on "De Vliegende Hollander" the ride broke down several times and people got stuck on the lift hill for several hours. If that isn't enough they again had a problem last weekend when a train of another rollercoaster got stuck but started to move on during the evacuation of the ride! A man nearly fell down from the ride! Look how this man jumps in one of the last cars with open shoulder harness, pulls it down, and continues the ride safely!

Vaya Con Dios

.
Vaya Con Dios is a Belgian musical group founded in 1986 by Dani Klein, Dirk Schoufs, and Willy Lambregt (the latter subsequently replaced by Jean-Michel Gielen). Their name is Spanish for "Go with God". They had some international success with the songs "Just a Friend of Mine" (a hit in France), "What's a Woman?" (a number 1 hit in the Netherlands in 1990), "Nah Neh Nah" (1990), "Don't Cry for Louie", "Puerto Rico", "Heading for a Fall", "Johnny", and "Don't Break My Heart". Dani Klein, the lead singer, and Willy Lambregt had previous success in the band Arbeid Adelt! and decided to form the band Vaya Con Dios together with contrabassist Dirk Schoufs, because they shared interests in gypsy music, jazz, and opera - genres that they felt were underappreciated in Brussels. Their first single, "Just a Friend of Mine", had a Latin feel and became a big hit in France, selling over 300,000 copies. Willy Lambregt left the group and was replaced by Jean-Michel Gielen. Even though Vaya Con Dios was successful in Latin countries, the band remained largely unknown in the Netherlands, partially due to being a Belgian band, but also because of their gypsy style. In the summer of 1990 they finally had their breakthrough in the Netherlands with "What's a Woman?" peaking at #1 for three weeks, making Vaya Con Dios the second Belgian artists to have a #1 hit in the Netherlands. The song is about the difficulties of men and women who on one hand need each other, yet sometimes find it hard to understand one other. In 1991, Dani Klein and Dirk Schoufs decided to go their separate ways, and from then on the group consisted of Klein playing with various musicians. On 24 May 1991, Schoufs died of an AIDS-related illness. (He had contracted HIV through his heroin addiction.) The third album, Time Flies, is much more melancholy than its predecessors. Even though the music and the composition of the band changed, Vaya Con Dios remained popular in much of Europe - especially France, Germany, and Scandinavia - until 1996, when Klein left the music business complaining of too much stress. She returned in 1999 as singer in the group Purple Prose, which released a debut album of the same name that year. Vaya Con Dios returned in 2004 with a new album titled The Promise, released on an independent label. In 2006, there is The Ultimate Collection, a greatest hits album, with a DVD of the acoustic concert of Brussels, and some bonus, such as an interview of Dani, some photos...Pauvre Diable was the first single. In total, Vaya Con Dios have sold more than 7 million albums and more than 3 million singles.

My favorite song by Vaya Con Dios is their biggest hit from 1990 "What's a woman?" I just love that song!

Thierry Mugler

.
Thierry Mugler, born 1948 in Strasbourg, France is a fashion designer, photographer, and creator of a fashion design company of the same name. While he was trained as a ballet dancer, he also studied design and created garments for friends. He moved to Paris in 1970 and worked as a window-dresser, designing clothing as a side job. He founded his label for women in 1974, and began designing for men four years later.
Mugler's work over the next two decades had a unique style that was very much of its time: it was strong, angular, sometimes almost cruel. Shoulders were wide and padded; waists were wasp-like. Prints were banished: Mugler's clothes came in solid, dominating colours. Collars had exaggerated points, or flamelike cutouts. The insect kingdom was a constant influence, as were the ladies and gentlemen of film noir. In his most extreme runway garments, PVC was often used, as were space and robot themes.
Thierry Mugler's fashion house did not survive the 1990s, though vintage versions of his more wearable clothes are still popular on auction sites like eBay. Owned since 1997 by the French cosmetics and skincare company Clarins, Thierry Mugler is now mostly known for its perfume division. The couture division was closed in 2003 due to increasing losses, and all Thierry Mugler ready-to-wear is now produced under license agreements, as is a line of eyewear.
Mugler himself has turned to other artistic interests. He has published two books featuring his fashion designs and photography, Thierry Mugler (1988) and Fashion Fetish Fantasy (1998). He also dabbles in film and video - he directed the video for George Michael's "Too Funky," featuring a parade of Mugler fashions, including the famous motorcycle dress - and collaborated with Cirque du Soleil on its 2003 show "Zumanity" at the NYNY Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. It is the first 18+ show from the company.
In Spring 2007, the New York Times noted that new fashion collections by Balenciaga, Dolce and Gabbana and Alexander McQueen seemed highly influenced by the Mugler style. The article quoted Mugler as saying he was working on a capsule couture collection to be sold at a new boutique in Paris set to open in autumn 2007, and that he was at work on theatrical extravaganzas for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the Crazy Horse in Paris.

"Lady sings the blues"

.
Diana Ross, my idol has accomplished a lot in her life going from lead singer of the world's most famous girl group the Supremes to the world's most selling female artist of all time. To me and many other fans the high light of her career however is when she portrayed the life of legendary Jazz & Blues singer Billie Holiday in the film "Lady sings the blues". This was Diana's first film role and it was also the first time that Hollywood showed black people in leading roles instead of the type cast house maid or servant. The role of Billie Holiday earned Diana an Oscar nomination for best Actress which she lost to Liza Minelli in Cabaret. Here's Billie Holiday (Diana Ross) when she just started out as a night club singer.

A Tribute to....

.
When three Major Stars bring a tribute to another Major Star you know that it will be special! This was exactly the case in 2001 when Usher, Maya and nobody else then Whitney Houston paid tribute to the one and only Mr. Michael Jackson @ the Michael Jackson tribute concert. And yes.............. they really were starting something.....

Rodeo Drive

.
In a couple of weeks I'm going to LA. I'm looking forward to that cause I'm gonna meet a lot of friends there. I also look forward to visit Rodeo Drive, not that it's that special but just to walk there is very relaxing to me. I won't (can't) buy anything there cause the prizes are way too high. Anyway, Rodeo Drive (pronounced "ro-DAY-oh") generally refers to a famous three-block long stretch of boutiques and shops in Beverly Hills, California, United States, although the street stretches further north and south. It is known as one of the most expensive shopping districts in the world. The center divide on this street was a horse path until the early 1950s, thus the name, but the shopping district as presently constituted developed in the 1970s. The business district is at once an exclusive shopping district, but also a major tourist attraction. The "Rodeo Drive" business district also includes those businesses on the streets that lie for a few blocks in either direction. So if you have some money to spend..... ro-DAY-oh is The Place To Be!

Divas on Ice

.
For years the sport of Ladies figure skating was dominated by Irena Slutskaya and Michelle Kwan. Both won many competitions and titles.

However the title they both wanted the most never did happen.
Let's look back to the Divas of figure skating

A-men & B-men

Today I received a nice present from one of my students! This girl is a student in the driving school from Antwerp but asked for me. I normally teach in Kontich. Anyway, I only gave this girl one lesson and then went with her to take the test which she had failed several times before with one of my colleagues. I can't say that her test was good but she passed and in the end that's what really matters isn't it? After her test she asked me which perfume I was wearing cause she liked the smell of it. I always wear A-men in the winter and B-men in the summer. Both are by Thierry Mugler which I told her. This all happened a couple of weeks ago. Now today I received this nice package and when I opened it there was one bottle of A-men and one bottle of B-men in the box. It also included some shower gel by Mugler! This must have been the most expensive gift I have ever gotten from a student!

I'm a celebrity! lol

Yes after one day of shooting for a TV-program called "1000 zonnen en garnalen" I can say I'm a star! The filming took forever and so did the interviews! I used to be a member of the "Rollercoasterfriends" but I didn't continue my membership 3 years ago. However I was invited by the present members of the board to join them on this trip. And you know what???? I had to do the most things! lol When we arrived at "De Efteling" the TV was already there and after a brief introduction they decided that I was going to be the one that had to do most of the interviews. When we arrived at the "Vliegende Hollander" it took at least half an hour to find the right spot for the interview. This was just in front of the coaster. Since it's their newest attraction it was also the most crowded place so I had a lot of spectators watching the filming and my interview. Since it was not my first interview (have done several in English and even one in French for skating) I was quite relaxed. The interview took about 30 minutes and then they interviewed two others (Joris & Bart) as well for about 5 minutes each! lol After that we had to go on the ride itself. Normally you have to wait in line but when you're there with television you could go on it just like that! We even had to sit through for 3 rides in a row. After that it was interviews again. Then they decided to film us one by one on the ride but this time with a helmet on. On this helmet was a camera attached that would film you during the ride itself! Since this ride is not spectacular I almost fell a sleep.lol Don't know when the program will air but they told us somewhere at the end of the month! If you want to know if we made 1000 rollercoasters..... just watch the program!

1000 Rollercoaster's

Today I'm off to "De Efteling" amusement park in Holland and this for a TV-program called "1000 zonnen en garnalen". The TV-company invited 6 people who have done a lot of different rollercoaster's in their life. I did 238 different coasters allover the world and will add one more today! "De Vliegende Hollander", which is a water-coaster, is the newest coaster in "de Efteling" and now the people from television speculate that when we put all our different coasters together we (the six of us) end up with 1000 rollercoaster's. .

Saying goodbye to an old friend.....

Today my car broke down! Well it didn't really broke down cause it still is as good as new although it's 14 years old! Here in Belgium we have some kind of quality control every year and it turns out that my car won't make it this time! Not unless I pay a lot of money to repair it. I almost have a new car for that amount of money. That's why I decided to buy a new one! I know that I will say goodbye to my old car with a lot of pain in my heart! I already know what my next car will be but I won't say it for the moment..... It looks a little like this one right here! This is a Peugeot Quasar!.

The Incredible Tommie Ross

.
As you know I'm a Huge Diana Ross fan and I just came across this wonderful Diana-impersonator of which I think he's the best I've ever seen! Most of them think that by putting on a big wig, a big smile and sing along to Diana Ross' music they become Diana Ross! Well..... unfortunately for them it takes more than a wig and a smile to be Diana Ross. Don't forget that Diana has great charisma and after seeing Tommie all I can say is...... WOW! Finally one who captured the whole Diana Ross persona!
.

Perfect women are.....

.
Have you noticed that when you ask a woman how she wants her body too look like???? They all describe a man!!! lol Yes they do cause they all want broad and straight shoulders, they all want the flat stomach, they want the small and tight hips and they all want long legs...... all features you will see more often on a man's body... Maybe that's the reason why some drag-queens (I mean the real good one's) can trick everybody! Don't take my word for it just watch the video. All girls you will see are.........men!

"Battle of the Brians"

.
I guess the title says it all! This is another "great moment" in figure skating history! Even sometimes people say that figure skating is very political (it's even mentioned in this video) I can say that if you do your very best, you still will get the place you deserve!

Bob Mackie

.
Robert Gordon Mackie (b. March 24, 1940 in Monterey Park, California) is an American fashion designer, best known for his costumes for Cher and for The Carol Burnett Show.
Mackie is also known for his exclusive designs of dress for high-priced Barbie dolls.
Two of Mackie's best-remembered creations had a humorous element. While working on the "The Carol Burnett Show", he designed a "curtain dress" (complete with a curtain rod across the shoulders) that Carol Burnett wore in the Went with the Wind parody. Mackie also designed the garish ensemble worn by Cher at the March 1986 Academy Awards: black stretch pants, a bejeweled loincloth, kneehigh boots, a black chainlink top, and a huge feathered Mohawk headdress that was one and a half times taller than her head. Introduced by Jane Fonda with the words, "Wait'll you see what's gonna come out here," Cher was appearing as a presenter after what many considered an Oscar snub (Cher was not nominated for her performance in Mask). "As you can see," said Cher, "I did receive my Academy booklet on how to dress like a serious actress."
Mackie is often called the sultan of sequins, or the rajah of rhinestones known for his sparkling and imaginative costume designs. He has won seven Emmy Awards for his designs and was thrice nominated for an Academy Award. He attended Pasadena City College and Chouinard Art Institute.
Mackie has said A woman who wears my clothes is not afraid to be noticed. He designed for a lot of woman in showbizz but mostly for Diana Ross. Most of her stage outfits are done by Bob Mackie and this from very early on in her carreer.

Diana Ross' Leading Lady Medley. All Mackie designs!

Salim Gauwloos

Todays post is about "Antwerpenaars" in the world. One of them made it big but is still unknown for most Belgians. Salim Gauwloos is better known to the world as "SLAM" Madonna's dance partner during her Blond Ambition Tour back in 1990.

Slam's career commenced when he began training in his native Belgium, at the Ballet of Flanders in Antwerp. At the age of seventeen, Slam auditioned in Belgium for a scholarship to a prestigious Dance School in New York City. Out of the two thousand dancers that auditioned, he was one of the two dancers who were awarded the scholarship.

In 1990 he began his association with Madonna. He is most famous for his performances in “The Blond Ambition Tour,” the documentary film, “Truth or Dare,” and he has also performed in several of her videos, such as "Vogue,” “Hanky Panky" and “Holiday” (live).

In addition, he has performed in music videos for the most popular artists in the entertainment industry. He has worked with Mia Michaels' company R.A.W and with Margo Sappington's Company The Daring Project, where he performed with Valentina Kozlova. He performed in New York City Opera's productions of “Salome,” “Daphne,” and “Candide.” His Broadway credits include Elton John and Tim Rice's “Aida” on Broadway, and “Mambo Kings,” The Workshop.

Slam has acquired a reputation as not only and extraordinary dancer, but also as an exceptionally gifted choreographer. He was selected to showcase his choreography in the prestigious Ballet Builders 2002, 2004, and 2006. His work choreographing the number for Aida's performance at Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids, won “Gypsy of the Year 2003."

He recently presented two world premieres set on Orlando Ballet under the Artistic Direction of Fernando Bujones, which received rave reviews —“His synergy of forms is so fresh”—“This dance is as cerebral as it is visceral”—by Diane Hubbard Burns for the Orlando Sentinel. His work “I Breathe You In” was recently performed at Orlando Ballet’s production “A World of Dance” under the artistic direction of Bruce Marks.

The contemporary solo titled “Coming of Age” that Slam created for Joseph Gorak (ABT II and winner of the Youth America Grand Prix 2006 in New York City) was performed at the Gala “Stars of Today meet the Stars of Tomorrow,” held at City Center.

Slam will be teaching a workshop for Ballet de Monterrey, alongside luminaries Robert Hill (Artistic director of Ballet de Monterrey and former principal with ABT), Georgina Parkinson (Ballet Mistress ABT), and Laura Alonso (General Director of Centro Prodanza, Cuba).

What happened?

During the time of not posting and now I did a lot of things. One is renovating my bedroom. I now have this nice new bed in Bamboo. It took me a while to find a store who had exactly the Bamboo that I wanted but I managed and it was worth the wait cause it's a "fun" place to sleep.... I still need some volunteers to test it.... lol. I also went to see Diana Ross in concert here in Belgium and in Holland. She was great and I enjoyed it very much! But more later!
I have to go now but don't forget to tune in cause like I told you in my previous post..... I'm back!

I'm back

Hi all,

I'm back and this after a couple of months of not posting anything due to the fact of having not much time to do so. Than by the time I wanted to start posting again this terrible boat accident occured.... But now it's time to go on with everything that's fun in life cause I realised that life's too short.

In loving memory (Simone Moore)

.
I haven't posted much lately and unfortunately this isn't a happy one either!

My dear friend and ISU-judge Simone Moore got killed in a boating accident last wednesday in Sydney Harbor when a Jet-Cat hit their little boat! It's hard for me to write right now as tears stream down my face. I met Simone at the Junior Grand Prix in Nagano Japan in 1999 and she was a great and fun person to hang out with! I will always remember Simone as a fun person who always said what was on her mind and in some way she reminded me a lot about myself.

Simones funeral is tomorrow and I'm gonna drink one glass of Champagne which was her favorite drink and she always told everybody "drink Champers cause life is too short to be sad and even when I'm gone I will drink my Champers and want you all to do that to for me!"

Simone, I'll miss you!

Junior Worlds

.
As far as I know the Belgian and Dutch team left for Oberstdorf today. We are sending a Lady only. Barbara Klerk will represent Belgium at the Junior World Championships. Ironically Barbara was born Dutch but became Belgian a few years ago. Now her coach Sandy Suy has also the Dutch skater Eva Lim with her, so in fact Holland has two skaters there with one Belgian coach. LOL That's just the way it could be, cause Barbara never skated for Holland although she does have Dutch roots she is a real Belgian! Good luck

EYOF

.
I would like to take this oportunity to congratulate all winners at the EYOF in Jaca, Spain but especially the Belgian figure skaters Ruben Blommaert and Laurie Lougsami who did a very good job!

.

History repeating! (maybe)

.
On May 20 I'm going to see Diana Ross in concert here in Brussels. In fact I'll go see her on the 19th already cause then she's in Rotterdam Ahoy which is only a 1hour drive from where I live. Lucky that Europe is so small! Anyway, this is the second time Diana will perform in Brussels on May 20. She already performed in Brussels on that date. It was 1989 when she was promoting her "Workin' overtime" album. I guess you all wonder why I remember that date so well..... Just take a quick look at the picture and you'll see why! When I first saw Diana live in 1985 she just waved my way. It was then and there that I decided that the next time she was coming to Brussels I would make sure I had front row tickets so that maybe I could give her a hand or so. Can you imagine my surprise when she invited me up on stage to dance slow with her in 1989...

"Red red Wine........."

.
Tomorrow I'm leaving for Bordeaux, France and this for the rest of the weekend. No... not to drink some "Bordeaux" wine, well in fact I will drink some wine but mainly I go their to judge.
Looking forward to see some of my international skating friends again, which is always fun! This will be my first time in Bordeaux so I hope that I will have some time to vist the city but I doubt it... Judging is hard work as you all know...
