"Dynasty": A royal wedding...

.
Nowadays I don't watch much television anymore but it wasn't always like that. In the late 70's early 80's I didn't miss one American soap opera! At that time there were a lot but my favorite always has been "Dynasty"! Dynasty told the story of Blake Carrington a self-made business man in the oil industry of Denver, Colorado. Carrington played by John Forsythe was the patriot of the family. He was married to his lovely wife Kristel played by Linda Evans. He had many children, Christina his daughter with Kristel, Fallon his rebelling daughter, Amanda his favorite daughter, Steven his gay son and Adam the lost son who came back to Denver for revenge. All these children where offspring's from his previous marriage with Joan Collins who reached superstardom with her role as Alexis Carrington-Colby-Dexter. Even today Miss Collins still has mass appeal to the public because of that one very famous role which was originally offered to Sophia Loren but she turned it down! I had many favorite scenes especially the cat-fights between Alexis and Kristel really stood out for me. My favorite episode ever was when Amanda got married to Michael Praed who played the Prince from Moldavia. By marrying this Prince Amanda would become a Princess, a role for Catherine Oxenberg who is a Princess in real life! I remember that when they shot that final scene only a few people knew what was going to happen. Only the director, two cameramen and one script girl knew about the attack! Nobody else knew, not even the actors... This was a twist in the mind of Producer Aaron Spelling who sadly passed away a few months ago. Since this was the last scene before all the actors needed to renew their contracts he made sure that they all got shot in the last scene making it easier for him if somebody would ask for a raise in pay which was too high for him... He was a very smart man but he couldn't do without his leading woman Joan Collins and she knew that. Her salary went too high and Aaron refused to pay. Because of that she didn't show up in the first two episodes for the new season but..... the view rates went down and Aaron gave Joan her extremely high salary! Dynasty was the #1 American primetime television soap opera that aired on ABC from January 12, 1981 to May 10, 1989. Dynasty epitomized the style and content of American primetime soap operas in the 1980s, programs in which the characters either had money and power and wanted more, or didn't have either but wanted both badly. This last one must be the reason why I didn't miss one episode of this Soap, cause I really could identify myself with these people...

For those who were around in the 80's see if you remember this one:
